WHY EMINEM IS FAILING...

Updated: Nov 25, 2020

Eminem is undoubtedly one of the greatest rappers of this generation and overcame many struggles in his life to get here. Although he has achieved so much commercial success and cemented his legacy in the rap game, he continues to make music and consistently puts out new albums. This is hurting his career, let me tell you why.

Everyone remembers his failed album “Revival,” and this just proves that some things don’t get better with time, as Machine Gun Kelly put it in his diss track “rap devil.” Eminem’s albums just aren’t getting the response that he once got and it’s not because he’s changed, it’s because the rap game in general has changed. Fans are looking for new sounds and flows and there is so much more to choose from than there was back when Eminem came up. Don’t get me wrong, I love Eminem’s old music and I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve his spot, I’m just saying that it’s a lot harder to make your mark and grow a fanbase nowadays compared to back then. Em has tried to adapt his style and fit into the new rap game, but fans just aren’t impressed with what he’s bringing to the table. He still has a few solid songs in his recent catalogue, but I doubt he’ll ever have as much success as his older music received.

Another reason he just isn’t making it in today’s music world, is because of his selection of “real” music. Anyone who gets a slim shady co-sign is no doubt an unbelievably talented rapper and this should not be taken lightly by any means, but if we look and see who Marshall has recently co-signed, it’s easy to see why he just isn’t going to get the love he once did. He co-signed artists such as Hopsin, Logic and YBN Cordae. These artists are very talented and have carved out a legacy for themselves from their craft which is admirable, but the simple fact is that they all have something in common, which is that they get called “corny” way too often to be ignored.

It’s safe to say that because Eminem is associating himself with these rappers, he admires their work and therefore doesn’t see anything wrong with it, meaning he wouldn’t see if he were in fact being “corny.” This old head view on rap I think is the downfall to the once great Eminem.
